The National Cashew Association of Nigeria (NCAN) has unveiled two digital tools, the NCAN Ticketing App and NCAN Farm Mapper App, alongside a mass seedling distribution program aimed at transforming the country’s cashew sector.
The Ticketing App, now available on Google Play and the Apple App Store, streamlines warehouse operations by digitizing record-keeping, improving inventory control, and reducing manual errors. The Farm Mapper App, meanwhile, allows farmers to digitally map their farms, creating a reliable database to improve traceability, access to finance, and opportunities in climate-related initiatives.
As part of its production drive, NCAN, with support from Beyond Farming Collectives (BFC), distributed over 45,000 Ogbomosho improved seedlings to farmers in Kogi, Benue, and Edo states during the 2025 planting season. The association said it plans to scale the initiative yearly, with a target of raising production from 350,000 metric tonnes to 2 million metric tonnes within a decade.
On policy, NCAN reaffirmed its opposition to any attempt to suppress farmgate prices or impose policies without stakeholder involvement. It demanded the immediate convening of a Technical Working Group (TWG) under the Federal Ministry of Industry, Trade and Investment (FMITI) to ensure inclusivity in policy formulation.
“Nigeria’s cashew policy must be transparent, nationally owned, and farmer-centered,” NCAN stated, adding that any framework that prioritizes processors’ margins over farmers’ welfare would be rejected.
Nigeria is currently among the world’s top producers of raw cashew nuts, but NCAN says inefficiencies in data and warehousing have limited its export potential. The association believes its new tools and advocacy efforts will drive transparency, boost competitiveness, and attract global investment.
